John Hunkler - co-owner: At the tender age of 21 John "crashed and burned" from severe alcoholism and drug addiction. A decision to sustain recovery exposed him to "spirituality", new to him although he grew up with religion. The recovery path exposed him to timeless and universal principles for achieving growth and inner peace, and also a desire to experience and express inclusiveness. This brought him to the conclusion of a 28 year career in the shoe business in the fall of '03. After an 8500 mile countrywide drive-about that same fall, and visiting close to 50 New Age/Metaphysical shops around the country, he was inspired to join with his life partner, Bonnie Anthony, and open a new shop in a city new to them. On April 1st, '04 the dream became a reality and Serenity Now Books and Gifts was born. And now John says he went from "soles" to "souls"!!

Bonnie Anthony - co-owner: Bonnie likes to tell of her college days when she would make about $3.00/hour working to pay for her education, but still found inspirational books so important it wasn't unusual to stop at a metaphysical book store and write a $200. check for more books to read! Her love for these type books led her the last couple years to apply for work at several New Age book stores. Her disappointment at never being hired by any of them turned into an "ah ha" after opening Serenity Now, because she realized if she had been hired by any of them she might have never left them to open her own! Bonnie has a smile and a hug for everyone who graces the shop with their presence, and she is never quite sure who is blessed the most!
